The last two days we toured below treeline @ around 6000ft. in the Cornucopia valley. Riding and touring conditions were quality after the recent cold streak and snow settlement. We observed some small cornice failures and minor dry loose avalanches near and above tree line . Due to recent high winds out of the SW & NW we avoided alpine or wind loaded ridges. On steeper East facing terrain managing sluff was a factor.
We dug a pit @ 6,000 feet on a East aspect. Where we observed a snowpack depth of 180 cm. We experienced a stable snowpack despite some density changes and a stiff layer 115cm below the surface that appears to be well bonded.
This area has picked up 75 cm throughout the Christmas storms.
