Above 7500' the snowpack was frozen and supportable. Below 7500' moist and unsupportable conditions continued to persist

Climbing above 7500' yesterday the upper snowpack became supportable with a solid 4-6" melt-freeze crust existing on the surface. No moist or wet snow was observed where I dug down at 8000' on a NE aspect. I did find a reactive layer of preserved graupel down 35cm. Slopes below 7500' were still sloppy and unsupportable.
