Bottom Line

The Elkhorns received over .5" of rain early this week with no hard freeze in 4 days. This has created a saturated upper snowpack and upside-down conditions. The heavy wet snow (30cm) is sitting on weaker drier snow and showing signs of instability. Until we get a hard freeze (early Friday am) expect wet loose avalanches to remain a major concern. Avoid and stay out from underneath steep slopes.
