Did you observe any avalanches?
Yes
Avalanche Type:
Size:
Size 3: Could bury and destroy a car, damage a truck, destroy a wood frame house, or break a few trees
Elevation:
8800'
Aspect:
NE
Comments:
Saw this avalanche while ascending towards Hurricane Point, which is 5 miles away so size is approximate. Crown was distinct to the naked eye and we estimate it to be 500-750 feet wide, connecting across various sub ridges under cliffs. Best guess on depth 3-5 feet

Signs of Unstable Snow

None reported

Observations

This was the only large avalanche we could observe in the alpine terrain around Sacajewea, Chief Joseph, and Twin Peaks. Most steep terrain had debris from dry loose or possibly small soft slabs but we saw no other crowns
