Riding conditions were very challenging between 5000' and 6500' where the 1/20 rain crust was breakable. Our tour was almost entirely on north slops at or below 30 degrees, between 5000' and 7000'.
Advanced Observations
Observed Avalanche Problem #1:
Wind Slab
Comments:
Wind slab and crossloading on north slopes at and above treeline. At treeline slabs were 4"-6" thick above the 1/20 rain crust. Wind slabs were reactive to ski cuts only on unsupported slopes. Slabs were not reactive to hand sheer tests.
